Richard Harris Cue Identification
There are a lot of second hand cues out there that are being sold as cues I made, unfortunately, a lot of them, I have never seen before. Here are some ways to identify a real Blue Grass Cue made by me, Richard Harris.
My pin is brass, 3/8"-11tpi, on every cue I ever made.
Break and Jump/Break Cues:
The easiest way to identify one of these cues is to take the bumper out and it will say Blue Grass Cues in the hole of the cue.
I did make about a dozen of these cues before I started doing this. To identify these cues, measure the brass pin. It will be 1 1/8" long.
If there is any questions about identifying one of my cues please e-mail me for instructions.
Plain Cues:
The easiest way to identify one of these cues is to take the bumper out and it will have a serial number in the hole. You can e-mail that number and I can tell you if I did in fact make that cue.
The cue will be signed, Richard Harris, most of the time on plain cues, I signed it below the wrap. I know on Cocobola and Ebony cues the signature might be hard to see, but look for a light place in the wood.
I did make some plain cues before 1992 that I didn’t sign and they didn’t have serial numbers. To identify these cues measure the brass joint pin, it will be 1 1/8" long.
If all else fails for positive identification, you can mail the cue to me or you can take the wrap off. Every cue of this type I ever made is dated and signed under the wrap.
Pointed Cues:
The easiest way to identify one of these cues is to take the bumper out and it will have a serial number in the hole. You can e-mail that number and I can tell you if I did in fact make that cue.
The cue will be signed, Richard Harris, usually between one of the points. But, some of the Ebony or Cocobola cues may be signed below the wrap or in a piece of Ivory.
I did make about 6 pointed cues before 1992 that will not have these markings. To identify these cues measure the brass joint pin, it will be 1 1/8" long.
If all else fails for positive identification, you can mail the cue to me or you can take the wrap off. Every cue of this type I ever made is dated and signed under the wrap.
New Harris Hustler Cue:
My logo and signature are on the cue and under the bumper (inside the cue) "Blue Grass Cue" is written.

Company profile
Blue Grass Cues is a small company, consisting of myself and my wife, Donna.
We make less than 40 cues per year. We believe in the old fashioned way of making
cues, no computerized equipment, just hard work and lots of time.
My greatest concern is the playability of our cues, that's why I will spend up to two
hours hand buffing each shaft; this is after a shaft is usually considered done, to give a
player that feel of confidence. Blue Grass Cues are engineered to shoot very straight
and to give a pool player maximum control of the cue ball.
All components of a Blue Grass Cue, except the tips and bumpers, are custom made
by myself or Donna. I even machine my own screws.
Every Blue Grass Cue is hand-crafted to the best of our ability and must meet our
strict quality control.

Let
me show you how to differentiate between a good billiard cue stick
and a bad billiard cue stick. Seen any billiards table
around in a billiard parlor, if you do, place an object ball in the
middle of the billiards table and a cue ball on the headstring. Now
use the billiard
cue stick you
are going to test and do a straight shot with controlled strength
so that when you hit the object ball with the cue ball, the object
ball barely drops into the pocket. Important note: when you strike
the cue ball, remember the feel and the sound of it. Next place the
object ball and cue ball back to their original position again. Now
do another straight shot again, but with strength of a breaking shot,
and remember the feel and sound again. |
