BCM Custom Cues Showcase |

Hello, my name is Bryan Mordt. I began playing pool in 1984, I was seventeen. I got the bug like many do and started playing obsessively for many years. In that time I have owned many cues: Hicks, Meucci, Joss, Schon, Sierra and Southwest. I took an interest in maintaining my own equipment and really got into pool. In 1995 I met a man named John Shelton and he was kind enough to give me my first introduction to a metal lathe. I started off by doing small repairs and refinish jobs then it progressed into attempts at building cues. There was much to learn. Not long after that I crossed paths with Eric Niemira, a machinist / cue maker and we became friends. I spent some time working with Eric and learned a great deal. In 1998 I purchased a billiards pro shop and continued honing my skills repairing & restoring all kinds of cues. After 4 years of running the pro shop I've decided to build cues full time. |

Let me show you how to differentiate between a good billiard cue stick and a bad billiard cue stick. Seen any billiards table around in a billiard parlor, if you do, place an object ball in the middle of the billiards table and a cue ball on the headstring. Now use the billiard cue stick you are going to test and do a straight shot with controlled strength so that when you hit the object ball with the cue ball, the object ball barely drops into the pocket. Important note: when you strike the cue ball, remember the feel and the sound of it. Next place the object ball and cue ball back to their original position again. Now do another straight shot again, but with strength of a breaking shot, and remember the feel and sound again. |
