ART CANTANDO (AC4) - This Pennsylvania cue maker has been building cues since 1997 under the wing of Barry Szamboti. Art has been working with wood most of his life, so when he started to build cues he caught on very quickly. (Getting tips from Barry Szamboti didn't hurt either.) Art's cues have already found favor with several major collectors, so getting one of the ten or so cues he makes each year is getting tougher.
This is cue is a beauty, with 4 razor-sharp short-splice ebony points set into a nicely figured bird's-eye maple forearm. The four veneers are black, red, black, and ivory-colored. The black veneers are thinner than the red and ivory ones, which give a delicacy to the cue. Inlayed in each point is a paua shell peacock veneered in ivory with an ivory diamond at the tip. The ebony butt sleeve is decorated with a set of veneer rings matching those in the points, and has an ivory substitute butt cap engraved with Art's “AC” logo. The piloted stainless steel joint with its 5/16-14 pin has a black phenolic color highlighted by a single silver ring.
