Chalking
up the billiard standards - Do
you really know how to chalk?
As you may know that the cue tip is the most most important part of your billiard cue
stick.
It is the only part that is in contact with the billiard ball. If you
don't chalk the cue tip before any shot, you may suffer a miscue, at
least every beginner should know this. The only reason to chalk the
cue tip of your billiard cue stick is to increase the grip when you
make a contact with the cue ball, the chalk is to create friction between
the cue tip and cue ball. The shot will probably be ruin without the
friction and cause a miscue, you wouldn't want that to happen.
To do it right on
chalking your billiard cue tip is fairly simple, just wipe it in a to and fro motion. I have
seen some players doing it in a drilling and circular motion, this will
only cause it to be ineffective. The drilling motion will make the chalk
uneven and too thick. When the chalk gets too thick, it will fall off,
in this case, you will not be able to get the friction that you need
and get yourself a miscue. Friction is important, with it you can control
the cue ball, make it spin, without it your cue tip will just slide
off the cue ball.
Making it a habit
to chalk your cue tip before attempting each shot is wise. Just remember
to place the chalk in the correct way as it is part of the billiards etiquette
(see billiards etiquette). |
