Advance draw and follow shots
I believe by now you have read and practice enough to achieve
draw and follow shots on straight hits. If you have not, you can go back
to this article on “draw and follow
shots” to read them. In this article I am going to discuss further
on draw and follow shots, this time
is a bit on the advance stage, so read on.
So after you had
enough on straight shots, have
you tried half ball shots? It will be interesting to learn that just
a game of billiards requires this tremendous amount of physics involved. A half ball shot
is aligning your line of sight from your billiard cue stick tip to the
cue ball to half of the object ball. Try shooting them repeatedly using
the same amount of power, you will notice that the shot is really predictable.
When I mention “the shot is predictable”, what I mean is
the physics and the direction of the effects of the cue ball and the
object balls will not differ much everytime you attempt the same shot
over and over again.
When you do a full
straight draw shot, the cue ball reverses back. But when you skim the
surface of the object ball with your cue ball, it produces no reverse,
mainly because the cue ball did not hit anything. So now you try the half
ball draw shot, you will realize that the energy of the cue ball is transferred
50% to the object ball while maintaining 50% for the reverse, that does
not mean that the cue ball reverses back to you but the angle of impact
on the object ball has causes the cue ball to curve in a direction which
depends on which side you hit the object ball.
The degree of curve
of the cue ball will depend on the amount of spin and whether is it
a
“half ball shot”, a “quarter ball shot” and so
on. The illustration will help you to follow easier.
